Norwood means the Northern Forest. Situated in the northern part of Chatham County, this land has been owned by the Norwood family for over 100 years. At its ridge there is a Crest of Stone, beautiful boulders that will be part of the community’s park, tied together with walking and running trails. Stonecrest at Norwood is located just miles from Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Jordan Lake. Consisting of just 49 large and heavily wooded homesites ranging from 1 to 4 acres in size, our neighborhood is designed to be a natural extension of the forest’s beauty and unbridled nature. This unique property is a development like no other.
Each of our homes is designed and built by local custom home builders, hand selected for this property. Boasting big, open floor plans and HERO certified energy efficient construction, these homes offer a seclusion and peace you just can’t find in most developments. Of course, it takes more than beautiful homes to make a neighborhood. So, along the existing creeks and streams, there is a community park as well as biking, running and walking trails that meander beside Wilkinson Creek and its tributaries, wrapping around the entire 106 acres of this most Northern Forest.
Our community is designed for you to live life your way.
Street landscaping and the whole design of Stonecrest is conceived as a continuation of the existing natural forest. The landscaping will not be separate from the surrounding woods but rather intertwined, expressing a unification of the forest ecosystem. Instead, trees and houses are integrated into this setting to maximize each family’s understanding of this enchanted wood. The location of trees, grasses, natural plantings, groundcovers, and lighting are all intentionally selected to emphasize the configuration of spaces that give form to the setting during all four seasons.
Instead of traditional overhead street lights that cast a harsh glare, each resident is urged to contribute with landscape lighting along the roadway to create a gently illuminated experience for all members of the community enjoy. The mail box pavilion is designed to tap into another special moment in nature. Residents can stop there for a moment and enjoy the surrounding views of trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and seasonal wildflowers. This visit occurs almost every day and over time the setting can be appreciated more and more as the plants grow and mature.
The total landscape has been created to minimize the effects of development and create a place that is merged into the glory of the land, the trails that journey across it, and the streams that surround it.
For more than one hundred years, the Norwood family grew up on this land. Generations of memories are held in its soil — the laughter of children splashing in the creek, the nostalgia of initials carved into a tree, the soft rustling of an afternoon walk through the woods.
Developing “the right” neighborhood for this unique, 106 acres of land was something very important to the Norwood Family. Which is why Stonecrest at Norwood consists of only 49, large 1 to 4 acre homesites; where generations of families can play in the forest, climb in the trees, and experience nature in the same way that the Norwood family did for generations.
This land is their legacy. And now a piece of it can be yours.
